The Wind in the Willows was published in 1908, yet over a century after its publication, it continues to fascinate people of all ages and nationalities. This novel immerses us in the adventurous lives of Mouse, Mole, Badger, and the incorrigible Toad. We accompany them in their adventures and misadventures, experienced or dreamed; we let ourselves be lulled by the placid waters of the river on a sunny summer morning, or welcomed by the warm fireside in cozy little dens. Sometimes, as we know, through carelessness or caprice, we end up getting into trouble, perhaps lost in the dangerous Wild Woods or locked in the dungeons of an ancient and impregnable fortress. But we must never despair when we have friends like them at our side! Adventure, travel, reckless actions, battles and conquests—this novel lacks nothing, a love song to nature, true friendship, and the warm hearth. And who knows if we too, between the pages of this book, will be able to grasp the sweet melody that the wind constantly whispers through the reeds.
« A book about Youth, and therefore perhaps especially for Youth, and for those who still keep alive within themselves the spirit of youth: of life, of sunshine, of running water, of woods, of dusty roads, of winter hearths; free from troubles, from the clash of the sexes; of life as one might reasonably suppose it to be regarded by some of those wise little creatures 'that glide silently among the grass and stumps of the coppices. ' »

The Author
Kenneth Grahame (8 March 1859 – 6 July 1932) was born in Scotland but lived most of his life in England. He was an official at the Bank of England and began his writing career by publishing some short stories in the magazines of the time. He was not a prolific writer, but what he wrote guaranteed him an undisputed fame that endures to the present day. His major works are The Golden Age (1895), Dream Days (1898), which contains his most famous story, The Reluctant Dragon, and finally his literary masterpiece, The Wind in the Willows (1908), a novel that has become a timeless classic of world literature.
